Mainstream translation products assume the user "doesn't know English at all." But a real cohort of people — engineers, overseas sales, cross-border negotiators, founders building internationally — sit in a stranger place:

Existing tools each cover one slice: Otter transcribes English but doesn't translate. DeepL translates but isn't real-time. Two iron rules
The team has tested and re-tested two iron rules:
Rule 1 — Source text always reaches the screen before translation.
When you can read 80% of the source, the source text is the main course; the translation is a back-up. We once refactored to "translate first, then emit" — and watched users see the English translation appear before the Chinese source they were trying to read. We rolled that refactor back the same day.
Rule 2 — The LLM never blocks the ASR stream.
However slow the LLM is, source text must keep flowing — smooth, continuous, real-time. Multiple LLM calls run in parallel and back-fill into the source slots already on screen.
These two rules shape every engineering decision in CrossMeet.
Three things we focus on
- Listening — ASR puts source text on screen in 100ms; you instantly catch 80%. LLM translation back-fills in parallel.
- Speaking — You speak natively, CrossMeet translates, and TTS rides a virtual microphone into Zoom / Teams. Your counterpart hears a native voice.
- Business meetings — Interpret mode + compose bar. Type in your language → see live translation → correct it to 100% → send (text + TTS together).
We are not a generic translator. We are not a universal assistant. We do these three things, well.
